LABORATORY

The Mining and Geological Survey of Hungary along with its partner institutes (Applied Geological Research Institute of the Miskolc University and the Institute for Nuclear Research, Debrecen) has win a GINOP grant in 2017, supported by the European Union, in order to develop the drill core library in Rákóczibánya with modern research infrastructure. The aim of the project is to establish a research lab where earth scientist, students and researchers may investigate the samples close to the library and gain the most relevant geological information on site.

The Institute for Nuclear Research is contributing to the project with the acquisition of a multicollector noble gas mass spectrometer and the development of a gas cleaning line and furnace systems. The new instrument and the attached peripheries allow the extension of the age limits of the K/Ar method, offer high precision measurements as well as the analysis of various noble gases with masses up to 100.
